To measure for your replacement cover we need you to lift your old cover and measure the opening size. Internal brick to brick or internal measurements for the drain riser. This gives us the clear opening we need in order to specify your replacement cover. Then we just need to know if you need a solid top cover or if you need a recessed cover, what you are going to fill the cover with so we can make it the right depth.

No, any products bespoke made for you are unable to be returned, make sure you check your drawing properly.

We will issue you an invoice for your cover or covers and ideally take a bank transfer payment or we can also take a card payment over the phone.

No, although for repeat customers we welcome accounts and can open you a trade account but for one off orders we only take pro-forma payment.

All complete covers can be made with any load rating you need from A15 to F600 or in simple terms pedestrian loading through to HGV and upwards.

As a bespoke manufacturer we will make your access cover to any specification you need.

80% of bespoke manhole covers products are made with galvanised steel as this is the most cost effective and strong material, next would be stainless covers used for swimming pool and coastal areas, lastly would be aluminium bespoke covers which are used primarily for aesthetic purposes.

Usual options for bespoke recessed manhole covers are 50mm or 100mm which are mainly for tile infill or block paving infill. Recessed covers can be made deeper at 150mm for deep block paving or areas needing extra reinforcement.

Any covers deeper than 150mm are very unusual but the beauty of our bespoke service is it can be whatever you need it to be. If you need a 300mm deep cover to take a special infill, we can make it.

Manhole covers in areas around a swimming pool, hot tub or cold tub always need 316 stainless steel to prevent corrosion. These covers are bespoke made in 316 stainless and this is the only material to use in a chlorine exposed area.

Aluminium can be used in the areas around swimming pools or chlorinated areas but preferably in the outer areas, any areas within splashing distance should be 316 stainless steel.

This also applies to coastal areas or sanitary areas like kitchens where heavy cleaning chemicals are regularly used, these also should be 316 stainless steel.

We offer specialist covers with surge plates build in to help mitigate water surging up from the drains below. These covers are sealed and locking with an additional surge plate to resist water pressure from below.

No cover can withstand too much pressure from below though and care needs to be taken as enough pressure will push a cover up and out of the ground, so no matter how good your cover is it can be pushed up and out of the ground.

We offer covers with fishtail fasteners to mitigate this and offer extra ways to secure the cover to the ground around it.

Yes, keys are needed for all manhole covers and they are different for most. Keys for manhole covers range from simple hooks through to threaded lifting keys. All covers are quoted with their appropriate keys and we suggest keeping these keys safe so you have them to access your cover if needed in the future.

Yes, you just need to measure the opening of your existing cover and give us the measurements needed in order to make you a recessed cover to suit. You may need to lower the chamber of your existing cover to allow for the extra depth needed for the recessed tray.

Yes, there is a range of recessed access covers called GrassTops and these are made specifically for replacing manhole covers in a grass area. They are recessed, featuring drainage holes and filtration to allow grass to grow in the recessed cover but also for it to remain freely draining. This leads to healthy grass growing where there was a solid manhole previously.

The grass filled manhole tray is still removable to access the drain below.

Sealed and locking access covers are standard, and these are “locked” with screws holding the tray to the frame. This compresses any seals on the frame to the tray and makes the covers both sealed and locking.

The word locking is a little misleading in the standard industry term used, it isn’t really locked but secured by screws holding the trays into the frame. These screws can be upgraded to be security (unique patterned) screws.

If you need extra security, we can also offer a locking cover that actually features a padlock to prevent anyone opening the cover without the key. These covers tend to be used for accessing basements, storage areas or sensitive electrical areas.

Building regulations state that you need a sealed cover for internal use. We would always recommend going for a sealed and locking cover for any internal uses or applications with a foul drain situated in an enclosed area. Sealed covers come in many types from a simple sealed and locking cover through to a triple sealed cover or a cover with a specifically designed sealing plate.

No, we do not specifically charge for drawings, but their cost is built in to our bespoke product cost. We will not produce drawings until an order is paid and if the order is cancelled post drawing production, then we will deduct the drawing cost from any refunds due.

Yes if you choose a sealed and locking cover, this is designed to prevent any odours from coming up through the drain.

In theory there is no limit. We have manufactured covers in excess of 3m x 3m with a single frame, multiple trays and removable centre beams making for a fully supported and sealed cover 3m x 3m but also totally accessible with a full 3m clear opening.

Covers bigger than 1m tend to come with multiple trays to enable them to be lifted easily and to keep the weight down. Covers 1.2m + can have central supports that are removable to allow just 1 x tray to be removed for partial access or all the trays and central support removed for full access.

Yes, we have keys available for all of our manhole covers. The challenge can be establishing what cover you have in place, ideally we need a receipt or product SKU so we can establish what the product is. We will always try to help and identify your cover from an image, but this is less reliable.

No, all orders need paying in advance of drawing and production.
